What is Compliance?
In 2005 the OIG (Office of Inspector General) developed a series of compliance program guidance's (CPGs) directed at the health care industry including hospitals, nursing homes and physician practices. The goal of the OIG was to encourage the development and use of internal controls to monitor adherence to applicable statues.
The Compliance program:
- Demonstrates the organization is commitment to honest and responsible corporate conduct
- Increases the likelihood of preventing, identifying, and correcting unlawful and unethical behavior at an early stage
- Encourages employees to report potential problems to allow for appropriate internal inquire and corrective action
- Through early detection and reporting, minimizing and financial loss to government and taxpayers, as well as any corresponding financial loss to the hospital.
